SOMERS, Conn. -- Earle L. Abbe, 84, of Maple Street, Somersville, retired dairy and tobacco farmer, died Tuesday in Mount Sinai Hospital, Hartford.
Born in Enfield, he lived in Somersville 55 years, and was a member of United Methodist Church, Hazardville, and Enfield Grange 151.
A collector of pencils, he displayed his collection at many local fairs and was a member of the American Pencil Society.
He leaves a son, Alan D. of Somers; daughter Ellen Niederwefer of Windsor; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday afternoon in the church with burial in West Cemetery. Somers Funeral Home is in charge. Donations may be made to the Somers Volunteer Fire Department Ambulance Fund, 451 Main Street, Somers. A Grange service will be Friday afternoon at the funeral home.
