Tania Zack was 20 years old when she disappeared in August 1984, after her car ran out of gas on High way 17 near Lexington Reservoir. She was traveling from her job as a bank teller at County Bank here to her Fiance's house in San Jose.
Her disappearance sparked a massive search and fliers with her photo were posted throughout Santa Cruz County. Her partially clad body was found five days later, tossed down a steep, wooded ravine on Montevina Road near Los Gatos. The murder went unsolved until last year when Wells came forward and confessed. In a two-hour confession he admitted to offering Zack help and then attacking her with a ball peen hammer. Wells told police that he threw her body down the hillside and then tried to rape her but was unable to.
