Herbert Burritt Rodgers was a son of Lieutenant Colonel Henry Cassady Rogers and Maria (Burritt) Rogers, brother of Walter James Rogers, Lieutenant Colonel Henry Schofield Rogers, Ethel Burnham (Rogers) Barnard, David McGregor Rogers, Guy Hamilton Rogers, and Helen McGregor (Rogers) Robertson, and the husband of Edith (Stewart) Rogers.

During World War I, he served as a captain in the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps.
