MOUNT NEBO Agnes J. Akers, 81, of Mount Nebo, formerly of Charleston, went home to be with the Lord Oct. 31, 2003, in Halquist Hospice Center, Arlington, Va., after a short illness.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Akers Sr.; her daughter, Judy Akers; her grandson, Jimmy Akers III; her granddaughter, Ruth Ann McIlwain; and other family members.
She was a member of Gilgal United Methodist Church, Mount Nebo, and a former employee of the Eye & Ear Clinic, Charleston.
She is survived by her son and his wife, Jim Jr. and Ann Akers of Cross Lanes; daughters and their husbands, Jane Ann and David McIlwain and Janice and Mike Richmond, all of Fairfax, Va.; brother and his wife, Bob and Betty Strain of Hurricane; four grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren and six stepgreat-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden, with the Rev. Harold Francis, the Rev. Jeff Willetts and the Rev. Jim Dailey officiating. Burial will follow in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.
The family will have a reception following the burial at First Christian Church, Kanawha Terrace and Greenbrier Street, St. Albans.
The family suggests donations to the Halquist Memorial Inpatient Hospice Center, 4715 North 15th St., Arlington, VA 22205; or a charity of your choice.
