Peter Ragle Sr on Apr 4, 1878 in Martin County, Indiana
Obituary: "Peter Ragle had gone out to his barn to feed his stock Wednesday, Nov, 17, and when he called by his wife answered, but not coming to the house for some time, Mrs. Ragle sent a boy after him. The boy found the old gentleman in the barn dead with a basket of corn on his arm. He had died suddenly from a smothering spell, to which he was sometimes subject. Mr. Ragle was eighty three years old, was a pioneer of Daviess County, having settled on the place where he died near Raglesville, many years ago. He was at one time Colonel of a militia regiment under the old militia law. He belonged to the Methodist Church, had eight sons, four of whom are living, and five daughters who are living. The Gazette joins with many friends in sympathizing with the bereaved family."
The source of the obituary is unknown beyond "the Gazette." The "Mrs. Ragle" mentioned in the article is Rachel J. Smeltzer, his second wife, whom he married on April 4, 1878 after the death of his first wife in the spring of 1876
