Valachovic, 91, Senior Slovak Resident, Dies
Johnstown's oldest Slovak resident, Martin Valachovic, 91, 3 Grove Street, died at 4:30 yesterday afternoon in Johnstown Hospital, where he had been a patient since Tuesday. Mr. Valachovic, who came here in 1890 was born Nov., 11, 1866 in Kuty, Czechoslavakia, son of John and Helen (Maceyka) Valachovic.
His wife, Mary (Hesek) Valachovic, died in 1933.
A leather worker, he retired 25 years ago. His last place of employment was the former Adams Buckskin Company.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the National Slovak Society.
The survivors are three sons, Stephen, John and Joseph Valachovic, all of this city; a daughter, Mrs. William Laird, also of Johnstown, 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
