Edward Waldemar Seberg was born on October 2, 1906, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Gustag Edward Seberg and Hilma Justina Rylander Seberg. He lived all his life in Marshalltown and graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1925.


A 1931 graduate of the University of Iowa, Ed owned and operated Seberg's Pharmacy on North 13th Street for many years. After retirement, he assisted in the store and also at the nearby Iowa Veterans Home Pharmacy.


He married Dorothy Arline Benson on September 4, 1933, in State Center, Iowa.


Mr. Seberg was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, a member of all 4 local Masonic bodies, the Lions Club, the BPOE (Elks), Toastmasters, and Delta Chi Fraternity. He also belonged to the Iowa Pharmaceutical Association and the American Pharmaceutical Association, and served on the Iowa Lutheran Hospital Board, Riverside Cemetery Board, and the Care Review Committee at Villa de Sol Nursing Home. He was also an active volunteer at the Iowa Veterans Home.


Edward Waldemar Seberg, 1510 Kalsem Blvd., passed away on Wednesday evening, September 5, 1984, at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. 


Ed is survived by his wife, Dorothy Arline; daughter, Mary Ann (Edward) Shuey, Cherry Hill, New Jersey; son, Kurt Edward Seberg, Des Moines, Iowa; 2 sisters: Velma (Olaf) Odegaard, Marshalltown, and Irma Elkhart, State Center, Iowa; and 3 grandchildren: Sara Lynne and Melissa Anne Shuey, and Alexander Diego Gary.


He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, David; daughter, actress Jean Seberg; 2 brothers, and 1 sister in childhood.


Arrangements were by and Visitation was at Pursel-Davis Funeral Home on Thursday, September 6, through Friday evening, September 7, 1984. Funeral services were held on 1:30 Saturday, September 8, at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Warren K. Johnson in charge. Pallbearers were Paul Gaunt, Frank O'Brien, Robert L. Benson, John Clemens, Bruce Harland, and Cliff Swenson. Groups attending were from the Masons, Iowa Veterans Home, and Villa del Sol. Memorials were requested to Trinity Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.
