ELDORADO, ILL. Frances Turner, 89, 1150 First St., Eldorado, died 5:51 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at Ferrell Hospital, Eldorado.

A memorial Mass will be said 11 a.m. Monday, March 22, 2010, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Eldorado with Fr. Ignatius Okonkwo officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation is 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church.

Arrangements are in the charge of Watson Funeral Home, Eldorado.

She was born March 3, 1921, in Lancaster, Pa., to the late Leonard J. and Barbara H. (Johnston) Mattern. She was the widow of J.W. "Shorty" Turner, who died in 1988. Born one of 11 children in a close-knit family in Lancaster, Pa., Frances came to Eldorado in 1945 as the bride of J.W. "Shorty" Turner. Devoted to her family, she raised three daughters and delighted in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her Catholic religion was a central part of her life and she was an active volunteer at St. Mary's School while her daughters attended. She was also a volunteer in 4-H and was an original member of Ferrell Hospital Auxiliary, where she was active for over 15 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Barbara Mattern; her husband; and six siblings.

She is survived by three daughters, Barbra Luce of Oak Park, Kathy (Willie) DeVillez and Mary Ellen (Jim) Groves of Eldorado; grandchildren, Dylan and Bonnie Luce and children Ryan and Lauren of Harrisburg, Ted and Misti DeVillez and children Katie and Jordan of Eldorado, Jeremy Noelle and children Grant and Evan, Benjamin and Emily DeVillez and Cooper of Eldorado and Gretchen Noelle and children Alex and Aiden of Eldorado. Also surviving are three sisters, Kathryn Derr, Clara Davidson and Barbara Pontz, all of Pennsylvania.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Duff-Kingston Memorial Scholarship Fund.
