Marjorie L. (Edwards) Wheeler Pugh, 90, of Dixonville, Pa., took flight into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013, from the AM/PM Personal Care Home in Adrian.
The daughter of Harvey O. and Elda (Allison) Edwards, she was born on March 27, 1923, in Idamar, Pa.
Marjorie was a graduate of the Green Twp. High School Class of 1941.
In May of 1943, she graduated from Houghton College, Houghton, N.Y., with an associate degree in Child Evangelism.
From 1943 to 1950, she embarked upon a ministry focused upon Child Evangelism/Worship Leadership as she traveled to conduct children's services and serve as a song leader in various churches.
Marjorie thoroughly loved children. She welcomed all children into her life — greeting each child with great love, heartfelt kindness and her ministry of God's special love for each of them.
Marjorie's life revolved around her faith, her family and her ministry to children.
For most of her life, Marjorie was a member of the Dixonville Wesleyan Church, where she was actively involved in church activities.
She received recognition for serving as a Sunday School teacher for 48 years.
Fondly referred to as "Grandma Marjorie" by the children and even the adults of the church congregation, she was in charge of the Junior Church Ministry, as well as being the director of Bible School for many years.
Marjorie was the president of Ladies Missionary Society for years and also assisted with the Help and Mercy committee coordinating funeral meals.
Marjorie loved cooking and sharing her homemade food with anyone and everyone. Her love for food manifested itself into a part of her church ministry when she was appointed as the head cook for various church camps over the years.
She enjoyed her involvement with the Dixonville Senior Citizens activities.
Marjorie married her husband Leonard Wheeler on Dec. 31, 1958. She shared almost three-and-a-half years of marriage with Leonard until his death in June 1962.
On Feb. 11, 1966, Marjorie wed Earl C. Pugh, and her family grew to encompass four additional sons.
Marjorie greatly enjoyed singing with her husband, Earl, as they performed at various church functions and community events.
A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and sister, Marjorie is survived by her children, Cecil Pugh and wife Phyllis of Kiowa, Colo.; Neil Pugh and wife Pat of Harrisburg; David Wheeler and wife LeVonne of South Daytona, Fla,; Roland Pugh and wife Sandy of Dixonville, Pa., and Becky Peterson and husband Rob of Mahaffey; 17 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Marjorie is also survived by her sister, Rebecca "Jane" Edwards of Dixonville, Pa., with whom she had shared a home for many years; her sister-in-law, Betty Edwards of Clymer; and several nieces and nephews.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leonard Wheeler; her husband, Earl C. Pugh on May 20, 1995; her sons, Charles Wheeler and Allan Pugh; her grandson, Rick Pugh; and her two brothers, Paul and Chalmers Edwards.
Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, at the Rairigh Funeral Home, Ltd. in Hillsdale, Pa.
An 11 a.m. funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013, at the Dixonville Wesleyan Church in Dixonville, Pa., with Pastor Mike Fisher, the Rev. Prewitt Duncan and her grandson, Pastor Tom Pugh, officiating.
Interment will follow at the Oakland Cemetery in Indiana.
