James Paul "Jim" Lowrie, 83, passed away August 8, 2013, in Abilene. Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Monday, August 12, 2013, at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South.
Jim was born on August 11, 1929, in Tahoka, TX, to parents (Berry Francis) "Jack" and Jessie Lawrence Lowrie. He met and married Laverne Sanders on August 18, 1953 in Lea County, NM. He was drafted into the United States Army and served in the Korean War. He enjoyed outdoor sports and was a lifetime member of the Abilene VFW. Jim worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone company for 37 years before his retirement.
Jim is survived by his wife, Laverne; his daughter, Paula Lowrie Stewart of Abilene; and his sister, Jo Glover of Abilene.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his son-in-law, Charles Stewart.
The family would like to offer a special thanks to Dr. Aks, Dr. Au, and the staff at Texas Oncology of Abilene, for the compassion and support they received. It was greatly appreciated.
