Arthur M. Bowers, a lifelong resident of this city, and a highly respected citizen, died at his home, 111 Frederick street, this morning following an illness of less than a week. The next day he was stricken with pneumonia, and his condition grew grandually worse until his death.

Arthur M. Bowers was born in Rome, March 24, 1886, son of Catherine Beck and the late Charles Bowers. He was educated in the schools of this city and at Rome Free Academy. For some years he was a prominent athlete of this section, having been a member of the Windsor Baseball Team of Rome. Mr. Bowers was employed for a time at the plants of the Rome Metallic Bedstead Co., and Rome Wire Co., and in 1915 accepted an appointment as deputy sheriff and jailer at the Rome Jail under Sheriff Daniel Becker. In 1917 he was appointed to the same position by Sheriff Bert Sweet, which office he held until 1920. He was again appointed deputy sheriff and jailer in 1923 during the incumbency of Sheriff Fred Meiss, and was reappointed this year under Sheriff John Thomas, holding that position at the time of his death.

On November 25, 1913, Mr. Bowers was married to Nettie Carey, daughter of the late Warren and Nora Carey, who survives. He also leaves, besides his mother, one daughter, Lois Catherine, and one brother, Charles J. Bowers of Rome.

Mr. Bowers attended the Wesleyan Methodist Church.

Mr. Bowers had an extended acquaintance and was popular with a wide circle of friends who will sincerely regret his death and will extend deep sympathy to his afflicted relatives.
