Boris was born Eli Mei Beckh Boxer on August 15, 1893 in Irkutsk, Siberia. His brother, Morris Boxer helped him leave Russia and come to the United States. Boris arrived in Yokohama, Japan with his wife and infant child. On September 1, 1923, when Boris was on the dock buying passage to the United States, Japan suffered a 7.9 magnitude earthquake that killed 142,800 people. When he got back to the hotel, his wife and child were dead and he had to carry on alone to the United States. He became a naturalized citizen of the U.S. on July 1, 1929. He worked as a hairdresser with his brother, Morris, in San Francisco. He married Leah Haimovna Smilansky on February 14, 1943 in Reno, Nevada. They had 4 children: Paul Boris, Zena Bella Boris Boxer, Morris Anthony Boris Boxer and Hilda Boris Boxer between September 1943 and July 1949. Boris died of a heart condition and diabetes on August 2, 1951. According to Jewish tradition, he was buried on August 3, 1951.
