He is survived by his wife, Mary Louise Peterson Bernard of Charenton; two step-sons, Virgil "Lynn" Lanie Jr. and wife Revah of Patoutville, and Wilfrid "Will" Lanie of Patoutville; two step-daughters, Paula Lanie Huckaby and husband Brian of Hammond, and Suzanne Lanie Fortier and husband Michel of Patoutville; a brother, James B. Bernard; two sisters, Lillian LeBlanc and Lorena Mora, all of Charenton; and three step-grandchildren, Lyndi Lanie, Rhett Lanie, and Jean Huckaby.
Mr. Bernard was preceded in death by his parents, Adrian and Emma Darden Bernard; five brothers, Edwin, Allen, Donald, Shirley and Milton "Timmy" Bernard; and two sisters, Hazel Bernard and Gertrude Eddlemon.
"Mr. Jack" was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 255 in Jeanerette, where he became a Master Mason in 1992 and Master of Lodge in 1998. He was a member of the Royal Arch, Council, and Commandery of the York Rite Bodies. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and member of the Lake Charles Consistory, and the Hibbi Shrine Temple of Lake Charles.
Visiting hours will be observed Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service with a rosary being recited at 11:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at noon Saturday at the church. Entombment will follow in the Chitimacha Mausoleum. Father Bill Crumley will officiate the services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mr. Bernard's name to The Shriner's Children's Hospital.
