OBITUARY-
Donald K. Aaby, 78, Austin, died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, at Burr Oak Manor.

Don was born May 22, 1922, in Decorah, Iowa, to Andrew and Marjorie (Allen) Aaby. He married Mary "Pat" Lynch on May 29, 1942, at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin.
Don was a World War II veteran. He was a gunner on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Yorktown, which is still docked in Charleston, S.D. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and also a member of the American Legion and Eagles club. Don was a retired employee of Hormel Foods.

He is survived by a son, Larry Aaby, Minneapolis, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He had a special friend, Lucille Surdam.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Andre and Marjorie Aaby; his wife, Mary "Pat" Aaby on Dec. 23, 1996; two sons and a daughter; his brother, Richard Aaby.
Service: A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Father Virgil Duellman officiating.

Interment: Oakwood Cemetery with military rites by VFW Post 1216. Casket bearers will be Ashley Aaby, Joe Vacura, Marlin Anderson Bob McNiff, Ronald Aaby and Ray Aaby.
Visitation: There will be a 6:30 p.m. wake service today at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. and also 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society or donor's choice.
