Died at DePauw College, the residence of his son-in-law, Rev. F. A. Friedley, at 1:45 o'clock this afternoon, Judge Thomas J. Sample, of paralysis, aged 81 years 8 months and 6 days. Judge Sample was born at Elkton, Cecil county, Md., and removed thence to Indiana at the age of 18 years, settling at South Bend. In 1828 he removed from South Bend to Connersville, where he continued to reside till 1841, when he took up his residence at Muncie, Delaware county, continuing a citizen of that county until a few years ago, when he made his home with his daughter and his son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Friedley. Judge Sample was a man of eminence in Eastern Indiana, serving for some time as judge of the circuit court. He held a high position as a lawyer and citizen. He united with the M.E. church at Connersville, in 1835, and continued an active, faithful member till death. His funeral will take place at 3 o'clock to-morrow (Saturday) afternoon, from DePauw College. - New Albany Daily Ledger 07 Jul 1882
