Emory Hames

E.M. "Jack" Hames went to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday, August 14, 2013. Visitation will be 6 till 8 PM, Friday, August 16, 2013 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Funeral will be 11 AM, Saturday, August 17, 2013 in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow the service in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Jack was born June 7, 1912 to Bascum and Ola Hames in Decatur, Alabama. For many years he lived in Hamlin, TX where he owned and operated a water delivery business and house moving. He moved to Abilene in 1967 where he owned and operated Jacks Stematic for 21 years. After retiring he became the owner and operator of Hames Rental Properties until his death.

He was a 71 year member of Masons in Hamlin, TX, a 61 year member of Mason's of Stamford, TX, member of the Lions Club, a member in good standing with the Suez Shriners of San Angelo, and a Knight with the Knights of Pythias. Until 2008 at the age of 96 when he suffered a broken back, he was very active in the rental properties, still doing maintenance and taking charge of his crew.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Helen; five daughters, Joy Pope and husband John of Georgetown, TX, Kathy Hurst and husband Ronnie of Odessa, Lora Basket of Cisco, Deborah Minear of Odessa, Patricia LaFernier of Merkel; eleven grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild, and many friend and business associates.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Melvin Hames and George LaFernier.
