Clarence Clayton (JacK)Payne farmed for his entire life. His firt marriage was to Arnette Grant Payne of Alexander Co. They had two Sons Willis (1918) and Charlie Parks Payne (1922). Arnette died 6 months after the birth of their third son who died at age 18 months. They are buried at New Salem Presbyterian Church, Old Mountain Road, Alexander County. His 2nd wife (Bertha Mae Sigmon)Married 1930. They had children William, Monk,JoAnne, Glen (Pete), and Ruth Payne. Surviving at this time 2005 are Charlie Parks, JoAnne, Ruth. Clarence Clayton died of complications of a scalding to his entire backside of his body while processing hogs at a neighbors farm.
