Charles was the son of Patrick Crohan and Abigail (Moriarty) Burns. Although he was born in Wales, both of his parents were born and died in County Kerry, Ireland. In 1892 he married Mary Smith in Old St. Joseph's Church, Newport, RI. Charles and Mary had five children:
