Mary, Lee's first wife, she is listed as a Grundman in the marriage record and on her death certificate. Her mother was Friedrike BAUMEISTER. In the 1900 census, Albert and Friedrike are listed and it says that Friedrike was the mother of one child who is no longer living, so perhaps they just didn't record her when they did the census in 1880? I checked the county birth records for 1878-1882 and do not find one for Mary Grundman. A lot of births went unrecorded, especially early on and in the outer townships.

I think Mary may be the adopted daughter of Albert Grundman and Rikie Becameister (Not sure that is the correct spelling, but that is what appeared on the marriage record for Julia). Monroe marriage records have Edward Lee Merryfield, son of James and Fannie (Chapman), born abt 1872, married Mary Julia Grundman, born abt 1878, daughter of Albert Grundman with no mother given, married 27 Apr 1897 at Ida, Monroe, MI.

Apparently Julia was married before to Len Custer, born abt 1875, OH, son of John F. and Memie Matteson, married 26 Sep 1895 at Monroe, Monroe, MI, Julia Grundman, born abt 1879, daughter of Albert Grundman and Rikie Becameister.

Mary Julia does not appear on the 1880 census with Albert and Ricka, so maybe she was adopted after that census. If you do not wish to add her parents as Albert and Rika that is fine because I really do not know positively. A mystery. :)
