Vivian Mooney Christmas

Vivian Mooney Christmas, 87, of Pineville, NC, passed away on August 13, 2013, at home. Vivian was born on January 5th, 1926, in Fort Mill, SC, to the late Thomas Nebraska Mooney and Dallas Starnes Mooney.

She is survived by two sisters, Helen Satterfield and Bobbie Jean Sanders and preceded in death by siblings Mabel Archie, Tommie McRae, Johnnie Mae Earnheart, Coley Mooney, and Douglas Mooney.

She married her beloved husband of 46 years, Henry C. Christmas on March 7, 1942, who preceded her in death in 1988.

She was employed, along with Henry, by Cone Mills Corp. in Pineville, NC, for over 25 years.

They had a great love for music and dancing, which they shared with their family, and were known to clear a dance floor with their jitterbug. Vivian was a true Southern lady and a matriarch to a large family of girls. She also had an enduring affection for her three sons-in-law of whom she was so proud.

She is survived by her three daughters, Terie Christmas Davis and husband David Davis of Pineville, Marta Christmas Culp and husband John Culp of Fort Mill, and Lesa Christmas Kastanas and husband Andy Kastanas of Charlotte. She raised two beautiful granddaughters, Courtney Satterfield of Fort Mill and Alex Kastanas of Charlotte, and one precious great-granddaughter, Lola Satterfield.

After her husband Henry's passing, Vivian joined the Senior Olympic Games from 1991 - 1995, winning gold medals in the 5k Walk, Ladies Doubles Badminton and a silver medal in Basketball. She went on, with her late partner, Sunshine Williams, to become NC state champion in Ladies Doubles Badminton and attended the National Senior Games in 1995. Vivian was the longest standing member of the Pineville United Methodist Church, which she joined in 1937. She took great joy in her church family whom she always met with a bright smile and laughter. She entertained in senior care facilities with her singing group, The Happy Notes, and with her tap dancing group, The Miss Steps. She walked two miles every morning at Carolina Place Mall with her good friends, Shane and Martha Ann, and met daily with her breakfast group at Bojangle's, including dear friend, Maudie. She was a loving caretaker to family and friends and her joyous nature touched many lives.

Family will receive friends on Thursday, August 15, 2013, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McEwen Funeral Service Pineville Chapel. A celebration of Vivian's life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 16, 2013, at the Pineville United Methodist Church at 110 S. Polk St. Burial at Pineville Cemetery on Lowery St. will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte Region, 1420 E. 7th Street, Charlotte, NC 28204, www.hpccr.org.
