LONE GROVE —
Funeral services for Lillie Jewell Smith, 89, of Lone Grove are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013, at the United Methodist Church of Lone Grove, with Pastor Harold D. Hunt and Pastor Tom Riley officiating. Interment will be 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon at Marlow Cemetery in Marlow, Okla. Services are under the direction and care of Alexander Funeral Home of Wilson.


Jewell was born Aug. 17, 1923, at McAlester, to Ed Cathey and Josie Carol (Walden) Cathey. She passed from this life Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, at Ardmore.


Jewell attended school at Indianola, graduating there in 1942. She lived most of her adult life in McAlester, and married Everett V. Smith there on April 9, 1943. They traveled extensively following his job. Everett preceded her in death Dec. 22, 1952. She was a devoted housewife and loving mother dedicated to her family's welfare. Jewell married John R. Smith April 4, 1959, in McAlester. He preceded her in death May 21, 1994. She was presently a resident of Lone Grove and had lived in Ringling before, but her home has always been Marlow where she was a member at the Eastside Baptist Church in Marlow.


In addition to Everett D. Smith and John Smith, Jewell was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Doug Cathey, Ovie Cathey and Paul Cathey; daughter Virginia Wilson; and son James Edward Ketchum.


Survivors include her daughter, Judy Thrasher and husband, Donald, of Comanche; son Everett E. Smith of Sterling; sister Maxine Jurgenson and husband, Tom, of McAlester; brothers Glenn Cathey and wife, Lou, of Temple, Texas, Thad Cathey and wife, Clara, of Oklahoma City, and Darrell of Lone Grove; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of wonderful nieces and nephews, family and friends.


Pallbearers are Donald Thrasher, Bruce Kilpatrick, Randy Cathey, Charles F. Wilson, Charles E. Wilson and Darin Cathey.


Visitation will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013, prior to the service at the United Methodist Church in Lone Grove.
