David G. Scott, 89, of Tucker, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 2,2013. He was born May 27,1924 to the late David G. and Mildred H. Scott in Atlanta, GA. David graduated from Decatur Boys High School in 1942. He was predeceased by his beloved Joscelyn Gillum Scott .to whom he was married for 41 years. Together they built a loving home in Avondale Estates for over 40 years. David spent the bulk of his career in the Landscape industry operating a family business - Scott Landscape Company. He was also a founding consultant to Philips Landscape company in helping built that firm from its infancy. In the 1940's David worked with Capital record company as a marketing representative and would entertain the recording artists as they came to Atlanta and escort them to the radio station DJ's for interviews. While living in Florida, David also worked with the Ed L. Thomas Co. specializing in dry cleaning supplies. David was a past member of the Druid Hills Lions club, and Decatur Civitan club. He also served for many years on the troop committee for Boy Scout troop 175. He and Joscelyn spent many years enjoying their Avondale friends at the Avondale Community Club. He was an active participant and lifelong member of the Decatur Presbyterian Church. His service spanned roles such as Elder, Deacon, pastor search committee, Chairman of House and Grounds committee, among others. He dearly loved the Crusaders Sunday School class where many friendships were fostered and great fellowship was enjoyed. David was a model of sacrificial love. He was gentle, quiet yet humorous, always humble, and a true gentlemen. Survivors include his son, John C. and wife Toni, of Tucker; Grandchildren, Rachel and Carter. Sisters include Dorothy Stevenson of Tucker, Mildred Haynes of Starke, FL and Betty Keane of Roswell. Bothers; Alexander John "Jack" of Tucker, and Charles Scott of Decatur; and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends. Visitation will be from 5-7pm Monday, August 5th at A.S. Turner & Sons. A Memorial Service honoring the life of David Scott will be held at Decatur Presbyterian Church at 11:00 on Tuesday, August 6th. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the following institutions that were close to David's heart.
