As a member of the U.S. Women's Marine corp, she served as a librarian in Anchorage, Alaska and then regimental librarian for the artillery battatlions of the 25th infantry division stationed at Nara, Japan. She loved Japan so much that she later returned as a civilian to work as a librarian in Tokyo, Japan. Later she became head librarian at Allan Hancock College, Santa Maria, Ca. She also supervised 17 libraries in the Lucia Mar Unifield School District in Arroyo Grande, CA.

Marjor Ada Newenham Bailey was born in Hersman, Il, Oct. 5, 1910. She was the fourth of nine children born to Alfred Newenham and Anna Faith Dorsey Newenham. She expired Oct. 20, 1991 during a heart attack at the home of her nephew, Charles Newenham in Springfield, IL. She was preparing to return to her home in Indian Cove Section of 29 Palms, California.
Her husband, Ralph Bailey and five brothers preceded her in death, namely, Roselle, Glen, Deane, Chalres Kenton and Lyle.
Surviving is one brother, Wayne Cecil Newenham, El Degundo, California and twin sisters, Doris Roesch, Loami, IL and Dorothy Knepler, Joshua Tree, CA.
Marjorie enjoyed a wide spectrum of hobbies, art, classical music, gardening, handcrafts, quilt making, photography, culinary arts and genealogy and belonged to related clubs. Her interest in genealogy prompted her to revisit her childhood friends and relatives and took her vacationing to several states. She had expressed her wish for cremation to be followed by a quiet gathering of family at the cemetery. The Staab Funeral Home, Springfield, IL is in charge of the arrangements. Her remains will be interred in a grave site beside her mother in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Springfield.
