Maude came with her family to Wise County, Texas from Searcy County, Arkansas in 1893 where they lived about a mile north of Alvord. The parents of of Maudie were Marshall Henry Hemphill and Mary Arnetta (Nettie) Glenn. Many of their friends and relatives from Searcy County had previously relocated to the area.--Maudie married John Henry Harrington in Wise County, Texas, on 24 December 1900. John became a Doctor late in life and was previously married too Maudie's first cousin, Margaret (Maggie) Belle Hemphill, daughter of Henderson P. Hemphill.
John and Maggie were the parents of two sons and two daughters under the age seven that Maude raised to adulthood. She was their step-mother as well as cousins ! Those four children were Clarence, Virgil, Clara Estella, and Vera Pearl. Virgil was to become the first Oklahoman to loose his life in Military Service in World War One.---Maude and Dr. John had two children. First born was a female named Jo who died as an infant. Their son, Johnny Vance Harrington, was born in Oklahoma on 11 October 1907 and died 24 May 1992 in Houston, Texas.--(Some family records indicate that Maudie may have been born in Springfield, Missouri. This fact has never been proven and her parents only lived there briefly around the time of the Civil War. It is more likely that she was born in Arkansas).
