Ernest I. Atwood Dies at Yonkers
Former Vice-President of Carter Paper Company Had Moved From This City 10 Days Ago
Ernest I. Atwood, 86, formerly of 30 Harvard street, vice-president of the Carter Paper company, died Sunday morning at the home of his daughter, Miss Catherine G. Atwood of Yonkers, N.Y.
Mr. and Mrs. Atwood went to live with their daughter 10 days after giving up their home here. Mr. Atwood was taken ill shortly after his arrival in Yonkers and had been hospitalized since that time.
Born in Minnesota in 1858, Mr. Atwood came to this city in 1894 as a salesman for the A.F. Ballard Paper company and in 1903, when the Ballard company merged with the Carter Paper company, he was made a director of the company. In 1932 he was elected vice-president.
G. Fred Estey, treasurer of the Carter Paper company, said of Atwood, "he was a very friendly person, and radiated optimism and good cheer, and was a very successful salesman."
Mrs. Atwood was a member of Christ Church cathedral and Hampden Lodge of Masons.
Besides his daughter he leaves his widow, Mrs. Dora G. Atwood.
