James Preston Adkins, 78, passed away August 14, 2013 surrounded by his loving family.
He was the son Martha and Romie Adkins and was raised in Lincoln County, West Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his parents and loving wife of 48 years, Verna Adkins, sister, Mary, and brothers Charles, Frank, Fred and Calvin.
He served in the United States Air Force.
He was the owner of Adkins Plumbing and Heating and other constructions businesses with his wife in Dunbar, West Virginia until 1985 when he moved to Florida.
He retired from Pt. St. Lucie Hospital after 13 years of service in maintenance.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Robert Harrison; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Sonya Adkins; son, Mark Daniel Adkins, and daughter and son-in-law, Susie and Randy Shafer.
He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Sam Harrison, Rachael Harrison, Amanda Gannon, J.T. Adkins, Stephen Adkins, and Kacy Shafer, as well as 4 great- grandchildren, Drake Gannon, Preston Gannon, Aurora Gannon, and Anastasia Adkins.
He is also survived by his brothers Bob Adkins, Bill Adkins, Terry Adkins and sister, Rose Shafer.
