Hazel Oglesby Garner, 88, of Newport, died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2006, at Britthaven of Newport.

She is survived by two daughters, Betty Culpepper and husband Nick of Mill Creek and Kathleen Poole Mason of Ft. Worth, Texas; a son, Allen "Ray" Garner and wife Alinda of Mill Creek; eight grandchildren, Preston Garner and wife Maria of Morehead City, Steve Samosky and wife Sarah of Durham, Paul Samosky and wife Amy, Sonya Garner Mauseth and husband Seth and John Samosky Jr., all of Raleigh, Nicholas Culpepper Jr. of Mill Creek, and Ernie Poole and Patricia Poole and husband Shorty, all of Ft. Worth, Texas; a son-in-law, John Samosky of Raleigh; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lokey Dalice Garner; a daughter, Carolyn Samosky; and three grandchildren.
