Mrs. Sophia J. Barder, 76, of 128 W. Main St., Lykens, died at her 'home Sunday after several months illness.

Mrs. Barder was the former Sophia Hirsch, and was born in Austria, the daughter of the late John and Ursula Schmick Hirsch. She was a member of Our Lady Help of Christians Church.

Surviving are eight children: Joseph, at home; Mrs. James Tomlinson of Oakford; George and Rudolph both of Philadelphia; Mrs. William Brooks, of Enola; Mrs. William Brady of Philadelphia; Mrs. Charles Johnson of Oakford, and Michael of Lykens. 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Requiem mass was celebrated . Wednesday at 9 a.m. in Our Lady Help of Christians Church, the Rev. Louis A. Creeden celebrant. Burial was in the German Catholic Cemetery.
