Joseph Knight, 54, of Monroe, was a passenger aboard Alaska Airlines Flight 261 on Jan. 31, 2000 when the flight, which took off from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and bound for Seattle, Washington, crashed into the Pacific Ocean just north of Anacapa Island, California, which is located about 11 miles off the coast of Port Hueneme, California. Sadly, the crash killed everyone aboard: two pilots, three cabin crew members, and 83 passengers.

Pastor and missionary Joe Knight, with his wife, co-pastor, and co-missionary, Linda Knight, worked to help starving children and families in Mexico. The Knights, who had recently celebrated their 32nd wedding anniversary at the time of the crash, began their ministry with Bible readings in their home in 1978.
