Lon Rodger Payne
Lon Rodger "Lonnie" Payne, 61, of Eleanor went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 9, 2008, at CAMC Memorial Hospital, Charleston. He was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Wilma Payne of Winfield, and his sister, Barbara Mays of Winfield. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Sherry A. Perdue Payne; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Sandy Payne of Hurricane and Rodger and Sherri Payne of Scott Depot; daughter, Lisa Ann Payne of Eleanor; and grandchildren, Leanna Payne, Corey Payne, Brett and Garrett Payne, Logan Payne, Michael Hager and Steven Hager. Also surviving are his sister, Patty Kayser of Millwood; and brothers, Donnie Payne of Clay County and David Payne of Teays Valley. He was retired from Bayer Crop Science, Institute, with 36 years of service. Lonnie was a 1965 graduate of Winfield High School, where he met and later married his wife, and also was in the U.S. Navy, where he served on the USS Intrepid. Lonnie was also involved in the building of Shalom Baptist Church, Fraziers Bottom, where, on December 21, 2005, he accepted the Lord as his Savior and became a faithful member. He enjoyed sharing in the care and maintenance of his church and his neighborhood. Lonnie also loved Cape Hatteras, where he was an avid fisherman. He and his family loved camping together. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 12, at Shalom Baptist Church, Fraziers Bottom, with Pastor Frank E. Lawson and Pastor Roger Adams officiating. Burial will be in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens, Red House. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Chapman Funeral Home, Winfield.
