Mrs. Adams was born in Newport News, Va., a daughter of the late Robert Walker Britt and Martha McKenney Britt. Her family moved to Thomaston when Nancy was a small child and she was a 1962 graduate of R. E. Lee Institute. She attended West Georgia College then married Jimmy Adams on February 14, 1964. Mrs. Adams spent a total of 42 years working in Upson County government. She began working part-time while still in high school for her grandfather, F. D. McKenney, who was the Tax Receiver. In 1966 she began working in the Tax Commissioner's office. She worked there for 22 years until she was elected Clerk of Court in 1989. She held that post until her retirement on December 31st of 2008. She was a member of the Georgia Clerk of Superior Court Association and was twice voted clerk of the Year. Mrs. Adams was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Thomaston. She belonged to the John Tatum Sunday School Class and the United Methodist Women. she also served on the Stewardship Committee, The Administrative Council, The Pastor Parrish Relations Committee the building committee and as secretary for the Trustees. Mrs. Adams was a tireless volunteer in civic and community affairs in Thomaston and Upson County. She was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, a former member of the Flint River Technical School Foundation, was secretary for the Upson EMC Foundation, Inc., and was a member of the Spade and Trowel Club.
