Ed Ray Stinnett, 81, of Mills River, died Friday, August 16, 2013 at his home.

A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Clyde Ray Stinnett & Mary Edna Queen Stinnett. He is also preceded in death by a sister, Annie Kate Limbo and her husband Elmer; a brother, Jon Mac Stinnett; and a nephew, Steven Keith Limbo.

Ed served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict aboard the USS Dennis J. Buckley. He retired from Ecusta after 43 ½ years of service and was a member of Boylston Baptist Church. Ed loved his family and enjoyed fishing, his dogs, genealogy, and his grand babies.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Ocie Davis Stinnett; four children, Edward Ray Stinnett of Mills River, Margaret "Libby" Elizabeth Bryson of Etowah, Timothy Welch Stinnett and his wife Marie of Mills River, and Rena Ann Hamilton of Etowah; Five grandchildren, Kimberly Dawn Stinnett, Kristin Rae Stinnett Hamilton, Christopher Jody Bryson, Timothy Kyle Stinnett, and Elizabeth Drue Stinnett; a sister, Judye Ruth Stinnett Fuqua of Holly Springs, NC; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held at 11:00 AM on Monday, August 19, 2013 at the Kirby Memorial Chapel of Shuler Funeral Home. The Rev. Wesley Hooper and Rev. Jimmy Burress Officiated. The family received friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment took place at Shepherd Memorial Park at a later date.
