William was the second child of David Conrad & Cynthia Ann Beem Mull. He was born Sept 29, 1840 in Spencer, Owen Co, IN.

William enlisted for service in the Civil War on July 24, 1861 in Gosport, Owen Co, IN. He transferred on Feb 1, 1863 from Co B, IN 21st Infantry to Co B IN 1st Heavy Artillery. He mustered out of service on July 31, 1864.

William married Louisa Jane Hefner about 1867. Together, they had 3 children:

George S. (1869-1959)
Cora E. (1873-1961)
Russell Beem born Jan 31,1886

On Nov 28, 1890, William applied for his Civil War pension in McLean Co, IL. He also was a railroad engineer.

After his death, Louisa, filed for a Civil War widow's pension in McLean Co, IL on July 21, 1902.

William was recorded in the 1850 & 1860 Census Owen Co, IN in his father's household. In the 1870, 1880, & 1900 Census, their home was McLean Co, IL.
