Dorothy was my Grandma. She loved gardening, cooking, family get-togethers, and her life-long career as a teacher. She taught kindergarten age children in the city of Pittsburgh, PA. She was friends with the one and only Mr. Rodgers, who often visited her classroom.
Dorothy was born in Little Falls, New York and was educated in Baltimore, Maryland. Her family then moved to Pittsburgh where she met and fell in love with my grandfather.
Grandma married my grandfather on November 29, 1934 at St. Philomena's Church in Pittsburgh. They had three beautiful children.
Grandma loved her children and her grandchildren. I was happy that she got to meet her first great grandchild, James, in 1986.
In August of 1987 we discovered that Grandma had cancer. Her beautiful daughter, Mary Anne, moved her into her home in Shaker Heights, OH to give her the best of care. The last time I saw my Grandma was Thanksgiving of that year. The entire family was together...she was happy and at peace. A few weeks later my Grandma passed away. I still see her smiling face, hear her singing a song to the little ones, and feel the best hug one could know.
My Grandma, Dorothy, was 77 when she passed away. I miss her dearly.
