Samuel and Frances had two children and possibly a third. A son, Joseph Foresman was born in 1866 in Illinois, probably in Little Rock, Kendall County, where the family was living in 1865. A daughter, Charity Foresman, was born 1868 in Heath, Allegan County, Michigan. Frances had a sister, Harriet [Howlett] LeMoin, who also lived in Heath, Allegan County.
In 1871, Samuel, along with his wife and two children (Joseph and Charity), joined the Cays family in moving from Illinois to settle in Clallam County, Washington Territory. Samuel and his father, Joseph Foresman, worked in the forests. Samuel was appointed Sheriff of Clallam County, Washington Territory, on 4 Aug 1873 by the Clallam County Commissioners to serve for the unexpired term caused by the resignation of Thomas Abernathy, the former incumbent. Samuel appointed his father, Joseph Foresman, to be Deputy Sheriff on 29 Oct 1874.
Samuel's Last Will and Testament was made 2 Apr 1875 in Clallam County, Washington Territory, Probate Court. Notice of his death was printed in "The Weekly Argus" on Saturday, 22 May 1875, page 3, Column 2. Samuel is buried in Dungeness Cemetery in Sequim, Washington next to his father.
Some time after Samuel's death, Frances returned to Illinois with her children (Joseph and Charity) and there in Willow Creek, married George W. Platt on 24 Mar 1877.

His Government marker, issued by the War Department by contract (1896), perpetuated the error of middle initial "G" begun during Civil War service, wherein he was also known as Samuel F Foresman.
