WINTER HAVEN—Mr. William "Bill" Douglas Richards, age 78, died of heart failure Sunday Nov. 18, 2007 at his residence under the care of Good Shepherd Hospice.

Born in Lake Forrest, IL., on Dec. 26, 1928, he came here from Fort Myers, FL,. in 1960. He was a cattle rancher, citrus caretaker and grower. He began truck farming in 1946. He played football for Northwestern. He was a member of the Mayflower Society, Florida AAU, Ridge Orchid Society, and the Lake Region Yacht & Country Club. He was a member of the Sheriff's Association for 35 years. He was also a member of the E.F.S. and Peace Creek Ranch. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church of Winter Haven.

Mr. Richards is survived by his wife Mrs. Barbara Bell Richards, Winter Haven; 3 sons, Douglas Scott Carol I. Richards, Winter Haven, Charles Daniel Debra Richards, Auburndale, David Andrew Kelly P. Richards, Fort Myers; 1 daughter, Elizabeth Ann Scott Hutson, Port Orange, FL.; brother-in-law Murray Bell, Fort Myers; 1 sister, Mary Elizabeth George Beemer, Fort Myers; 8 grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26, at Grace Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace Lutheran Church Educational Fund & Florida Sheriff's Association.
