MONTEREY, CA - Angelina Petrina Anastasi went to be with the Lord, surrounded by her loving family on Sunday morning, October 17, 2010.
Angelina was born in Monterey on January 15, 1930, to Salvatore and Angelina Melicia of Isola Della Femine, Sicily. She graduated with distinction from Monterey High School and earned an AA degree from Monterey Peninsula College where she was crowned the school's first Homecoming Queen. She married the love of her life, Joseph Anastasi, on November 26, 1950 at San Carlos Cathedral.
Angelina lived life to the fullest. She loved serving as an Acolyte and Eucharistic Minister at San Carlos Cathedral. Angelina sang with the Choraleers, was a member of the Italian Catholic Federation, Rosary Group and Sewing Club. She was involved in fundraising for the Children's Home Society and served as President of the Santa Catalina School Service League. Angelina was a lover of the Arts, frequenting productions at the San Francisco and San Jose Performing Arts Centers. She was an avid traveler, enjoying recent trips to the Holy Land and Lourdes.
Her life was centered on faith and family. Angelina is survived by her husband of 60 years, Joseph; her daughters, Jane Gasperson and Jodi Duckett; sons-in-law, Gary Gasperson and Thomas Duckett; grandchildren: Joseph Gasperson, Michael and Mandy Gasperson, John Duckett, Angelina Duckett; great grandson, Hudson Gasperson; sisters, Rose Pfeifer and Mary Benech; many nieces, nephews and cousins. All will miss her gentle and loving presence. She follows in death her brother, Theodore Melicia and sister, Louise McCoy.
The family would like to thank all of her loving extended family and friends, the San Carlos Parish Community, the Carmelite Sisters and the Cursillo Community who lifted her in prayer as well as the Westland House and Hospice staff who lovingly cared for her in her final days.
A Vigil Service will be held at San Carlos Cathedral on Wednesday evening, October 20, 2010. Visitation will begin at 5:30pm with the Rosary following at 7:00pm.
Funeral Mass will be held at San Carlos Cathedral on Thursday, October 21, 2010 at 9:30am with a reception following in the Parish Hall.
Anyone who wishes to honor her is asked to make a donation to the San Carlos "Cornerstone Campaign".
