THE SHORTSVILLE ENTERPRISE
SHORTSVILLE, NEW YORK, THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 4, 1930.
.....Later a business session was called,
reports being satisfactory; they
were soon disposed of. Incidents of
the past and future were freely discussed,
some causing much merriment.
The president was asked to
tell what had been accomplished recently
for our pioneer ancestors,
(Corporal Andrew Stewart of Revolutionary
fame, and Lucretia Hamcock,
his wife, who was a cousin of
John Hancock, one of the signers of
the Declaration of Independence and
Governor of Massachusets). Andrew
Stewart died in Williamson, Wayne
county, N. Y., in 1834. Lucretia, his
wife, died in Walworth, Wayne county,
N.Y., in 1855.
They were both buried in Pleasant
View cemetery at Williamson, N. Y.,
the early burying ground for the pioneers
of that town. All these years
they had lain in unmarked graves.
A few months ago the subject was
brought to the attention of a few of
the great great-grandchildren of this
couple, and it was decided to place
head stones on their graves. The
government provided a headstone
for grandfather, delivered free of
expense to us; and a similar one was
set for grandmother, and an endowment
fund established for the lot by
the great-great-grandchildren. It is a
source of great satisfaction to the
promoter of this worthy object that
this has been accomplished. For the
sake of keeping patriotism before the
minds of the younger generation, all
of these unmarked graves should be
marked.Stewart, Alexander 1750 5-26-1833 Pleasantview Cemetery, Williamson, NY Cpl. Mass.
Fought in the Revolution,Per:
Graves of Soldiers of the American Revolution Buried in Wayne County, New York whose graves have been officially reported, located or marked, by the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Born in Scotland, came to US in 1774, died age 83.
