Oran Evans Bryant, 78, died Tuesday, November 13, 2001 in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
He was born Octber 6, 1923 in Green Sea, South Carolina, the son of the late William Penn Bryant and Janie Caroline (Weavil) Bryant Kellihan and grandson of Warren Carlisle and Rebecca Elizabeth (Watson) Bryant of Green Sea and Harrison Orlando and Smithie B. (Anderson) Weavil of Fair Bluff, North Carolina. Oran was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked at the Norfolk Naval Air Rework Facility until his retirement. In his retirement, he enjoyed rebuilding bicycles to give to children and adults who could not afford them and was known in his neighborhood as "the bike man." His brother William Penn Bryant Jr. and Dottie Bryant, the mother of his six daughters, preceded him in death.
He was an ardent disciple of Jesus Christ and a member of Glad Tidings Church of Virginia Beach.
He is survived by his wife Sybil Norton Bryant; six daughters: Myrna Oleson, Patricia Mayo, Lori Singleton, all of Florida, Judy Trzaskoma of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Cindy Beacham and Kathy Gerald, both of Virginia Beach, four sisters: Carolyn Louise Spivey of Florence, South Carolina, Martha V. Fycyk of Leechburg, Pennsylvania, Mona F. Watkins of Raleigh, North Carolina and Katie L. Johnson of Virginia Beach.
