Civil War Veteran. Enlisted on November 16, 1861, age 18, and mustered on December 14, 1861, into Company H, 7th Regiment, New Hampshire Infantry (Union). Enlistment Rank: Private.

The regiment left the State for New York on January 14, 1862. At White Street Barracks till February 13. Ordered to Dry Tortugas, Fla., February 12; Duty at Dry Tortugas, Fla., till June 16, 1862. Moved to Beaufort, S. C., June 16, and duty there till September 15, 1862.

Battles, Skirmishes, and Engagements: Battle of Drewry's Bluff (May 15, 1862); Second Battle of Fort Wagner (July 18, 1863); Siege of Petersburg (June 9, 1864 – March 25, 1865).

Wounded in Action on July 18, 1863, at Fort Wagner, S. C.

Re-enlisted and mustered in on February 28, 1864.

Duty at Wilmington N. C., till June, and at Goldsborough, N. C., till July 1865. Mustered out on July 20, 1865, at Goldsborough, North Carolina.

Invalid Pension filed on June5, 1884 (Application No. 514,798 and Certificate No. 618,727).
