Miss Alice Weaver of Holbrook Dies in Avon Accident
Avon -- Miss Alice M. Weaver, 26, of Holbrook, last year's state Handicapped Worker of the Year, died and a companion was injured following an auto-truck accident Saturday at West Main Street and Harrison Boulevard.
Miss Weaver, listed by police as the drive of the car was taken to Cardinal Cushing Hospital, Brockton, where she died three hours later. Susan K. Kelly of 52 Winter Street, a passenger in the car, was treated at the hospital and released.
The driver of the tractor-trailer truck, George D. Haskins of 18 Ruth Road, Brockton, was not injured, police said.
Miss Weaver was awarded the Massachusetts Handicapped Worker of the Year Award last year by Govenor Francis W. Sargent.
Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, she had lived in Holbrook 20 years.
She was a graduate of the Massachusetts Canter Hospital School, canton. She worked for the Hermetite Corporation of Avon.
She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Alice (Wigglesworth) Weaver of the home address; three brothers, Donald Weaver of Holbrook, Robert L. Weaver of Pembroke, and William C. Weaver of Middleboro; and six nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held tomorrow at 10 a.m. at the Cartwright Funeral Home, 69 South Franklin Street, Holbrook. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Holbrook.
Visiting hours at the funeral home are today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
