Germanus A. McDermott, 73, of 147 Blatchley Avenue, died Sunday in the Veterans Administration Medical Center, West Haven, after a long illness. He was the husband of Angela "Angie" DiAdamo McDermott.
Mr. McDermott was born in New Haven, July 2, 1912, son of the late Francis and Catherine Maher McDermott. He was a gun assembler at Olin Co., for 27 years until his retirement in 1974. More recently, he operated the Service Garage of New Haven until 1983.
During World War II, he served with the Marines in the Pacific.
Besides is wife, he leaves a son, Germanus F. McDermott of Clinton; a daughter, Rosalie Rowe of North Haven; a brother George McDermott of West Haven; a sister Catherine Gritzbach of North Haven; and seven grandchildren. He was predeceased by six brothers, Francis, Richard, Daniel, Lawrence, Joseph, and Bernard McDermott; a sister Lena McCusker and a granddaughter, Angela McDermott.
The funeral will leave the Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm Street, at 9 a.m. Tuesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. in St. Rose's Church.
Burial will be in All Saint's Cemetery, North Haven.
