Bettye L. Abernathy, 70, passed away November 11, 2000.
Born in Akron, she was a member of the Harvestime Temple in Hartville, and was very active in all church activities.
Preceded in death by brother, George Patton, father, William Patton, and stepfather, Orb Opphile, she is survived by husband, Rev. James E. Abernathy, Sr.; sons, Rev. James (Judie) Abernathy of Chicago, Ill., Rev. Mike (Karen) Abernathy, Sr. of Hartville, and Stephen (Gail) Abernathy of Pennsylvania; daughter, Linda (Rev. Raymond) Smith II of North Canton; grandchildren, Tracey, James III and Kelley Abernathy, Michael Abernathy II, Benjamin and Amanda Abernathy, Raymond Smith III and Joshua Smith; five great-grandchildren; mother, Maribelle Opphile of Canal Fulton; brother, Joseph R. Patton of Clinton; stepbrother, Terry Opphile of Akron; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service Thursday, 1 p.m. at the Eckard-Baldwin Sanctuary Chapel, 760 E. Market St., Rev. Raymond E. Smith officiating. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday one hour prior to service.
