Mrs. Hanchett Dies at End of Busy Life
SAN FRANCISCO, May 16 - Mrs. Margaret Hanchett, pioneer and one of the noted women who have helped to build the State, passed away yesterday morning after suffering illness at the home of her son, L. E. Hanchett of 2648 Pierce Street. Beloved by her many friends in San Jose, Sacramento and in this city, she will be generally mourned.

Mrs. Hanchett crossed the plains to California in 1862 and many were the tales of hardship and the experiences she had to relate. She was actively identified with charity during her residence in _____ and many appeals came to her.

She was the wife of L. J. Hanchett and three daughters and one son were born to them, one daughter being the wife of the late George Crocker, a woman famous for her charm and beauty known in social circles, both here and in New York. Another daughter was the beautiful Mrs. Jack Wright of Sacramento, the third daughter is Mrs. Edgar B. Carroll of New York. The son, Lewis E. Hanchett as recently been identified with the railway operations in San Francisco and adjacent counties.
The funeral will be held from her late residence at _ o'clock this afternoon.
