Their only son, Bruce R. Mapes was born in Sacramento in Nov. 1946. Roscoe also predeceased her in Nov. 1961. Maxine grew up in Willows, graduating from Willows Joint Union High School in 1934. She studied to be a legal secretary for one year and found a position with the Shasta County District Attorney's Office, commuting on weekends between Redding, CA. and Willos in a two seat crop duster piloted by her younger brother, George. Maxine later moved to work for attorneys in private practice in Willows and Chico and during WWII, in Sacramento while Roscoe served in the U.S. Army Air Corps.
She worked until retirement at Brodavsky & Brodavsy. She was then 70 years old. After retirement, she remained active in the Women's Forum, The Tuesday Club and the Order of Eastern Star Rainbow Chapter #385, where she was a Chapter Secretary-Treasurer for many years until her first stroke in 2001. In 2002, Maxine moved to Fresno to be close to her son Bruce after working and living in Sacramento for 59 years. She resided in her own home in Northwest Fresno with some assistance from caregivers "Rusty" and "Mona" of Home Instead Senior Care, whom we thank you for their care, devotion and friendship.
