Sgt. 1st Class Ricardo D. Young, 34, of Rosston, Ark., died Aug. 28, in Ghazni Province, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when insurgents attacked his unit with small arms fire. He was assigned to the 307th Engineer Battalion (Combat/Airborne), 20th Engineer Brigade, XVIII Airborne Corps, Fort Bragg, N.C. He was born November 28, 1978 in Prescott, AR to Richard Young & Dexter A. Evans-Young. He attended Oak Grove High School and was a 1997 graduate of Nevada High School. He was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Rosston, AR. He attended Air Assault School, Airborne School, Warrior Leaders Course, Advanced Leaders Course and the Senior Leaders Course. His awards include the Army Commendation Medal, Purple Heart, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO medal, Parachutist Badge and Air Assault Badge. He was currently serving in the U.S. Army. Survivors include: his wife: April Young(Fayetteville, NC); (1)son: Markell Artist; (1)daughter: Make'La Young both of Fayetteville, NC; his parents: Richard & Dexter Young of Rosston, AR; (1)sister: Sharona Young(Rosston, AR); grandmother: Joy C. Heard; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relatives & friends. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 14th at 11:am at Nevada County High School Gymnasium in Rosston, AR with burial following in the New Salem Cemetery in Rosston, AR with full military honors.
