OBITUARY-
Donald R. Voss, 70, 2200 Fifth Ave. NW, Austin, died early Saturday morning, Feb. 12, 2000, at Austin Medical Center.
Donald was born April 22, 1929, in Austin to Herman and Mary (Wolter) Voss. He attended school in Austin and graduated from Austin High School in 1947. He attended Austin Junior College, where he took classes in drafting.
Don worked for George A. Hormel Co. for 39 years, initially as a welder-repairman and later in the "bug" shop as a mechanic. After retiring in 1986, he started a new career working at Farm Credit and then the Hormel Employees Credit Union.
Don was united in marriage to Katie Edson on Aug. 7, 1950, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin. Don was the loving father of five children: Collette, Margy, Michael, Mark and Ann. He loved and respected Katie, his wife of 49 years. He was a loving father, guiding his children in his calm and patient way. Don had four grandchildren: Sarah, Katie, Brice and Seth. Sarah and Katie looked at Grandpa as their role model in many ways and carry with them great memories of spending time at Grandpa's and Grandma's house after school and during the summer. As they grew older they continued to depend on him for moral support and advice. Brice and Seth have felt the love of their Grandpa in countless ways even though it was often long distance. Don loved to golf, dance, fish, hunt and work in the yard. He volunteered his time at St. Edward's Catholic Church; especially in its early years. For the church he did construction, yard work, taught CCD and served on the parish council and the Diocesan Pastoral Council. Not being able to golf lately was one of the most difficult things for him to accept bout he continued to enjoy watching his favorite players on TV.
Survivors include his wife Katie, Austin; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Cindy Voss, Chatfield, Minn; three daughters and a son-in-law, Collette Ulwelling and Margy Voss, Austin and Ann and Ted Reicher, Davenport, Iowa; four grandchildren: Sarah, Katie, Brice and Seth; Brother and sister-in-law, Vic and Mary Voss, San Diego, Calif.; nieces: Leigh Greer and Nancy Voss, both in California.
