Obituary:
Mrs. Gertrude Vandiver Bonds, 100, of Winston-Salem passed away Saturday, November 3, 2012 at the Oaks at Forsyth. She was born in South Carolina on April 19, 1912 to Reuben and Gertrude Keyes Vandiver. Mrs. Bonds was the longest-term member of Ardmore Baptist Church with her membership extending from 1938. She loved gardening, plants, spending time with her friends and playing cards. Mrs. Bonds enjoyed traveling and was able to travel extensively throughout her lifetime. Her true love was her grandchildren whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 69 years, Ira Bonds; three brothers a sister,and much loved cousins and friends. Mrs. Bonds is survived by two daughters,and their husband's grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many beloved nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 12:30 pm Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at Ardmore Baptist Church with Dr. Winford Hendrix officiating. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to Ardmore Baptist Church, 105 Miller St, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or Liberty Hospice, 1007 Lexington Avenue, Thomasville, NC 27360.
