Byron Leslie Scowden, 67 years old, died January 24 at his home in Gipsy. He was born February 15, 1899 at Lowndes, a son of the late Henry and Nancy McCollister Scowden.
On July 13, 1924, he was married to Mary Ann Catherine Houseman, and to this union three children were born. She preceded him in death on March 15, 1963.
On November 14, 1966 he married Mrs. Esther Hastings, and she survives.
Mr. Scowden was a member of the Corinth General Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Scowden is survived by three sons, Calvin Scowden of Lowndes, MOo.; Leo Scowden of Greenville, Mo.; and Donald Scowden of St. Charles, Mo.; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; two brothers, Roy Scowden of Lowndes, Mo.; and Cecil Scowden of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; five sisters, Mrs. Grace Cable of Shook, Mo.; Ella Lipe of Lowndes, Mo.; Mrs. Bertha Aldrich of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; Mrs. Mamie Clubb of Springfield, Mo.; and Mrs. Esther Dugger of St.Louis, Mo.
Funeral services were held at Gish-Bowles Chapel in Greenville on January 26. Burial was in Corinth Cemetery.
Pallbearers were James Shrum, Lester Shrum, Truman Barks, J.W. Burkett, Buck Rhodes and Don Alexander.
