Age 89, died Thursday, August 15, 2013 at her residence. Eleanor Skinner was born in Gaines, MI on February 4, 1924, the daughter of the late Floyd and Ruth (Bronson) Atherton. She was married to James Skinner on July 4, 1942 in Gaines, MI, until his passing in 2007. She was a proud resident of Burton and an avid Bendle Schools and Detroit Tigers supporter/fan for over 65 years. Mrs. Skinner was a member of Christ United Methodist Church for over 60 years. She used her talents as a seamstress, piano player, cook, and hostess to actively worship our Lord; volunteering and leading Sunday School, Bible School, Visitation, Church Board, Women's Society, Prayer Groups and various other Worship services. In recent times, she additionally worshiped at Flint Central Nazarene, where she participated in prayer meetings, prime timers, and other activities. She religiously participated in aerobic and swimming classes at U of M Flint Rec. Center for over 20 years. Her last workout was Wednesday, the 14th of August. Surviving are children: James (Susan), Phil (Gail), Sharon (Randy) Stegall and Janet (Dan) Jackson; 18 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and two more cookies in the oven; siblings: Doris (Fred) Judson, Dale (Kay) Atherton, Gary (Linda) Atherton, Ralph Atherton; brother-in-law: Floyd Skinner; sisters-in-law: Lucille Bancroft, Cecilia Atherton; cousins, nieces, and nephews recognized and loved Mrs. Skinner as the family matriarch who held the family together. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, James E. Skinner, March 8, 2007, daughter-in-law, Kit Skinner, three brothers, Frank Atherton, Floyd Atherton, and Allen Atherton, and three sisters, Mabel Wykes, Thelma Euper, and Evelyn Atherton.
